The Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) is a group of nuclear supplier countries established in 1975 to contribute to the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons through the implementation of guidelines for nuclear exports and nuclear-related exports. The NSG currently has 48 members.
The NSG Guidelines contain a “Non-Proliferation Principle”, adopted in 1994, whereby a supplier, notwithstanding other provisions of the NSG Guidelines, authorises a transfer only when satisfied that the transfer would not contribute to the proliferation of nuclear weapons.
In 2019, the NSG issued its Guidelines for the control of nuclear and dual-use equipment and goods, in two parts: Part 1, materials and equipment in the nuclear fuel cycle, and Part 2, dual-use software and technology.
