The KH-01 camouflage smoke-generating vehicle, developed in Vietnam
Unofficial translation from the Vietnamese original.
Application and testing have shown that the KH-01 smoke-generating vehicle achieves performance comparable to imported equipment.
Today, smoke-screen camouflage is one of the most economical and effective camouflage methods for protecting targets against conventional reconnaissance, as well as countering electromagnetic and millimetre-wave reconnaissance equipment.
Camouflage smoke technology is being developed by many countries, with smoke-generating equipment such as smoke rounds, smoke grenades, smoke mines and, more mobile still, smoke-generating vehicles capable of producing smoke screens covering tens of square kilometres.
A typical smoke-generating vehicle in the world is the tracked M1059 of the United States. Russia is also a country that has invested heavily in the research and production of smoke-generating vehicles, with many different models.
Among these, the TDA-M, the most basic smoke-generating vehicle currently in use in the Vietnamese army, served as the reference prototype in the research and production of the KH-01 smoke-generating vehicle by the project team of the Institute of Military Chemistry and Environment (Chemical Command).
Application and testing have shown that the KH-01 achieves performance comparable to imported equipment.
The KH-01 smoke-generating vehicle is now widely fielded in units throughout the armed forces. With relatively stable operation and simple deployment, the KH-01 has proven its role as an excellent piece of chemical equipment.
