APG Yearly Typologies Report 2022

Field: Proliferation financing Tiếng Việt

Unofficial translation from the Vietnamese original.

Each year, the Asia/Pacific Group on Money Laundering (APG) publishes a report to share information on typologies in the region, including information on money laundering (ML) and terrorist financing (TF) trends and a summary of case studies. The 2022 APG Yearly Typologies Report contains 236 case studies and observations from 22 APG members and 9 observers. This is a significant increase on previous years and reflects the strong support of governments for this report and for the APG, as well as its benefits for a wide range of audiences worldwide.

The case studies presented in this report represent a small part of the work of law enforcement and intelligence agencies in the Asia-Pacific and other regions to detect and counter ML and TF. Many cases cannot be shared publicly because of their sensitive nature or because investigative and judicial processes are ongoing; nevertheless, this report records a small part of these efforts.

In 2022, the report includes a short chapter focusing on illicit financial flows from illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. IUU activities raise large-scale concerns from many perspectives, including the proceeds generated, security concerns and the involvement of transnational organised crime groups. This chapter and other APG research on illicit financial flows from IUU fishing aim to identify the challenges in pursuing IUU-related proceeds.

The report also collates summaries of typologies research projects completed by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), other FATF-style regional bodies and APG observer organisations (Chapter 4). The report continues to track the impact of COVID-19-related ML and TF trends in Chapter 2, and continues to draw attention to Proliferation Financing Methods & Trends in Chapter 9. Both topics were focus topics in Chapter 1 of the 2021 and 2020 APG Yearly Typologies Reports.
